Manchester : Daytrips
Not far from Manchester lies the town of Bolton and the picturesque Smithills Hall. This is a fully restored 14th century manor house with all the trimmings including formal gardens and a maze. The area also boasts an amazing 12th century church called Saint Wilfreds in the ancient village of Standish. In the nearby borough of Bury you’ll find England’s largest public art project, the 30-mile Irwell sculpture trail, which coupled with the historic steam trains of the East Lancashire Railway, makes for a great daytrip from Manchester.
For an action packed daytrip from Manchester, head to the Lakes. With more than 2,500 miles of walking and hiking routes through the Lakes, there’s a trail to suit every fitness level.
For the more daring, why not try your hand at hang gliding, paragliding, kayaking, canoeing, waterskiing, sailing or windsurfing. Rock scrambling, abseiling, caving, hot-air ballooning, horseback riding, paintballing, golf and quad biking are also available.
The kids will really enjoy the Go Ape attraction, a high wire course suspended 60 feet above the forest floor. Booking are highly recommended during high season for all activities. |
