Manchester : Attractions
One of the cities main draws for visitors is its shopping. The stores here would rival any found in London and are home to every major fashion label you can think of.
If its history you’re after, then look no farther than the Castlefield area. This area is where the origins of Manchester lie and it is the historical epicentre for a recently allotted urban heritage park.
Back in AD 79, the area was home to about 2,000 people and was a fully fortified Roman camp. After the Romans left the fortress in AD 411, the settlement grew throughout the ages into modern day Manchester. Fine examples of the Roman period can be found here and it is well worth a visit.
Manchester is also home to over 90 museums and art galleries which will keep even the most serious culture vultures amused.
